The Basics

General Questions

Reach out through the contact form on this site or send me a DM on Instagram. Tell me what you are celebrating, a rough timeframe, and any location ideas. I reply within 24 hours with availability, pricing, and next steps. A deposit locks in your date.

I am based in Sacramento and regularly shoot throughout Northern California — Roseville, Folsom, Elk Grove, Davis, El Dorado Hills, Lodi, Grass Valley, and everywhere in between. If your location is within about an hour of Sacramento, I am there. Farther spots are possible too — just ask.

Yes. Natural light is my thing — golden hour, open shade, window light. No flash rigs, no studio backdrops. It keeps sessions relaxed and gives your photos a warm, timeless look. It also means I am particular about timing. I will help you pick the right window so the light does the heavy lifting.

It depends on the session type. Headshots come back in about a week, portrait sessions in two to three weeks, and weddings in four to six weeks. Every image is individually edited — no batch presets — so I do not rush the process. You will get a timeline when you book.

Your gallery comes with a built-in print shop where you can order directly — canvases, albums, loose prints, the works. I also have relationships with Sacramento-area print labs if you want something custom. But the digital files are yours to print however you like.

Graduation Questions

Spring is the most popular — March through May — because the light is warm and campus is in full bloom. But Sacramento has great shooting conditions almost year-round. If you want fall foliage or summer golden hour, those work too. Just book early for spring dates since they fill fast.

Yes, and I recommend it. Most grads bring a cap & gown look plus one or two casual outfits. We will plan quick change spots at your location so transitions feel seamless. Three outfits is the sweet spot for a 60-minute session.

All the time. I know both campuses well — the best light spots at the UC Davis Arboretum, the iconic Sac State library steps, and plenty of less-crowded corners most people walk right past. I also shoot at Sierra College, ARC, and other local campuses.

Four to six weeks is ideal, especially for spring sessions. If you are a planner, booking two to three months out guarantees your preferred date. Last-minute sessions happen when my schedule allows, but the best golden-hour time slots go first.

02

Family Questions

That is completely normal and honestly some of my favorite images come from it. I never force kids to sit still and smile. We play games, explore, and let them do their thing. The result is photos that actually look like your family — not stiff, staged portraits where everyone looks uncomfortable.

Coordinate, don't match. Stick to a color palette — neutrals, earth tones, and soft colors photograph beautifully in Sacramento's natural light. Avoid large logos and neon. I send a detailed style guide after booking with specific recommendations based on your session location and time of year.

Fall is the most popular — October and November give you golden light and gorgeous foliage at places like William Land Park and the American River Parkway. But spring is equally beautiful, and summer sessions work if we shoot in the hour before sunset. Sacramento's mild winters are underrated for photos too.

Of course. I love multigenerational sessions. We will start with the full group, then break into smaller combinations — grandparents with grandkids, siblings together, your immediate family. It adds about 15 minutes to the session, and those images become some of the most treasured ones in the gallery.

03

Engagement Questions

It depends on the vibe you want. Old Sacramento and Tower Bridge are classic for urban, dramatic shots. The Sacramento River at sunset is romantic without trying too hard. For something more natural, I love the fields in East Sacramento and the trails along the American River Parkway. I will help you pick based on what feels right for you two.

Most couples are, especially at first. I give prompts that focus on each other, not the camera — within the first few minutes you forget I am there. By the midpoint the best, most natural shots start happening.

That is one of the main reasons couples book engagement sessions. With a 2-3 week turnaround, you will have your gallery in plenty of time for save-the-dates, wedding websites, and signage. Just let me know your timeline when you book so we can make sure everything lines up.

Not at all. Some couples book these months or even years after getting engaged — or just because they want beautiful photos together. Anniversary sessions, dating milestones, or just a Tuesday — there is no wrong reason to document your relationship.

04

Weddings Questions

Generally under 50 guests, but there is no strict cutoff. Elopements with just the two of you, courthouse ceremonies with a handful of witnesses, backyard parties with 40 friends — all of these fall into the intimate wedding category. The approach is documentary: I capture the day as it unfolds.

Yes — Sacramento County Courthouse weddings are some of my favorites. They are quick, emotional, and real. I typically cover 1-2 hours for a courthouse ceremony plus portraits nearby. Tower Bridge and Capitol Park are a short walk away for golden-hour photos afterward.

I have shot at venues throughout Sacramento and Northern California — from Vizcaya in midtown to winery estates in Lodi and foothill barns in Placerville. I am happy to share recommendations based on your guest count, budget, and style. Just ask during our planning call.

Your call. I personally love first looks because they create an intimate, private moment and take pressure off the ceremony. But if you prefer to see each other for the first time at the altar, we will build the timeline around that. Either way, you get both candid and portrait-style images.

05

Portraits Questions

Wear something you feel great in. Earth tones, soft neutrals, and muted colors photograph beautifully outdoors. Avoid busy logos and neon. If you are coming with someone else, coordinate tones without matching exactly. Bring a second outfit if you want variety — I send a style guide after booking.

Yes. Portrait sessions work for solo, duos, and small groups. Whether it is you and your best friend, you and your partner, or a group of three — the session adapts. Larger groups work better as a family or event session.

Between 20 and 40 fully edited images from a standard session. You will have plenty for social media, printing, and saving. Every image in the gallery is polished and ready to use.

Anywhere with good light and a backdrop that fits your vibe. Open fields, tree-lined paths, downtown Sacramento architecture, the American River Parkway — I will recommend locations based on what you are going for. I know the best spots across the Sacramento area.

06

Events Questions

Yes — corporate mixers, team retreats, product launches, and networking events. The approach is the same: candid, documentary-style coverage that captures the energy of the room. I also deliver a set of detail and branding shots you can use for marketing and social media.

For most birthday parties and showers, 2 hours covers arrival through cake and toasts. Larger events or celebrations with multiple phases — like a ceremony followed by a reception — benefit from 3-4 hours. We will talk through your timeline and I will recommend what makes sense.

I keep it minimal. If there are specific group shots you want — the whole family, the friend group, the team — I will organize those at a natural break in the event. Otherwise, the focus is on real moments. No pulling people away from the celebration for forced lineups.

I have covered events everywhere from backyard parties in East Sac to corporate spaces downtown to rented halls in Roseville and Elk Grove. Indoor, outdoor, large, small — the approach adapts to the space. If you are still choosing a venue, I am happy to share what photographs well.
