Family photography in Natomas
The best family photos happen when everyone forgets the camera is there. In Natomas, sessions near North Natomas Regional Park, Discovery Park, and the Sacramento River levee trail give families room to play, explore, and just be together. Sacramento County's natural light and lakeside paths, open meadows, river confluences, and clean modern park landscapes create a backdrop that feels timeless without trying too hard. From newborns to grandparents, every chapter deserves to be documented. Angie shoots during sunset when the regional park lake reflects the sky and the wide-open fields go golden from edge to edge to get that soft, golden quality that makes Sacramento-area family portraits feel elevated. Parking is convenient at free parking at North Natomas Regional Park and Discovery Park, so there is no stress before the session even starts. Kids set the pace — Angie follows their energy and works the real moments into the final gallery of 30-50 images. After the shoot, families often detour to dining and coffee along Arena Boulevard and Truxel Road for a convenient pre- or post-session stop, which makes the evening feel complete.
What is family sessions?
Family photography is an on-location portrait session designed to document the authentic connections within a family — candid interactions, playful moments, and genuine expressions rather than stiff, posed group shots. Captured By Angie offers 45-60 minute family sessions at parks, open fields, and private homes throughout Sacramento and Northern California, including popular locations like William Land Park, the American River Parkway, and McKinley Park. Sessions accommodate families of all sizes, from couples with newborns to multigenerational groups of twenty or more. A natural mix of candid and gently guided shots ensures both real moments and wall-worthy portraits in every gallery. Deliverables include 30-50 individually edited images with a 2-3 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. Photographer Angie Shvaya coordinates wardrobe palettes and timing around golden hour to produce warm, natural-light images that reflect how each family actually lives and loves. Fall sessions from October through November are the most popular booking window.

Family Sessions FAQ
That is completely normal and honestly some of my favorite images come from it. I never force kids to sit still and smile. We play games, explore, and let them do their thing. The result is photos that actually look like your family — not stiff, staged portraits where everyone looks uncomfortable.
Coordinate, don't match. Stick to a color palette — neutrals, earth tones, and soft colors photograph beautifully in Sacramento's natural light. Avoid large logos and neon. I send a detailed style guide after booking with specific recommendations based on your session location and time of year.
Fall is the most popular — October and November give you golden light and gorgeous foliage at places like William Land Park and the American River Parkway. But spring is equally beautiful, and summer sessions work if we shoot in the hour before sunset. Sacramento's mild winters are underrated for photos too.
Of course. I love multigenerational sessions. We will start with the full group, then break into smaller combinations — grandparents with grandkids, siblings together, your immediate family. It adds about 15 minutes to the session, and those images become some of the most treasured ones in the gallery.
About photography in Natomas
North Natomas Regional Park offers wide paths, open meadows, and a scenic lake that catches beautiful sunset reflections. The park landscaping and clean lines work well for contemporary portrait styles. Discovery Park at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers provides dramatic river views and mature tree canopy for a more natural setting.
Spring brings green grass and wildflowers to Natomas parks from March through May. Fall offers golden afternoon light and comfortable temperatures from October through November. Summer golden hour works well at the parks since the wide-open spaces catch light beautifully in the final hour before sunset.
Natomas is just 10–15 minutes north of downtown Sacramento via Interstate 5 or Interstate 80. It is one of the most convenient session locations in the Sacramento area with ample free parking at all parks.
