Sessions run during late afternoon when Yolo County farmland glows golden and country road light goes soft and directional when Yolo County light is warm and forgiving. Meet at free street parking along Main Street and near the Opera House downtown, spend 45-60 minutes being yourselves, and let Angie handle the rest. The delivered gallery of 30-50 edited images captures real expressions — the held hands, the belly laughs, the quiet looks between parents. Finish the evening at downtown Woodland restaurants and Main Street shops to explore before or after the session and make it a full family outing.

Family photography is an on-location portrait session designed to document the authentic connections within a family — candid interactions, playful moments, and genuine expressions rather than stiff, posed group shots. Captured By Angie offers 45-60 minute family sessions at parks, open fields, and private homes throughout Sacramento and Northern California, including popular locations like William Land Park, the American River Parkway, and McKinley Park. Sessions accommodate families of all sizes, from couples with newborns to multigenerational groups of twenty or more. A natural mix of candid and gently guided shots ensures both real moments and wall-worthy portraits in every gallery. Deliverables include 30-50 individually edited images with a 2-3 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. Photographer Angie Shvaya coordinates wardrobe palettes and timing around golden hour to produce warm, natural-light images that reflect how each family actually lives and loves. Fall sessions from October through November are the most popular booking window.

That is completely normal and honestly some of my favorite images come from it. I never force kids to sit still and smile. We play games, explore, and let them do their thing. The result is photos that actually look like your family — not stiff, staged portraits where everyone looks uncomfortable.
Coordinate, don't match. Stick to a color palette — neutrals, earth tones, and soft colors photograph beautifully in Sacramento's natural light. Avoid large logos and neon. I send a detailed style guide after booking with specific recommendations based on your session location and time of year.
Fall is the most popular — October and November give you golden light and gorgeous foliage at places like William Land Park and the American River Parkway. But spring is equally beautiful, and summer sessions work if we shoot in the hour before sunset. Sacramento's mild winters are underrated for photos too.
Of course. I love multigenerational sessions. We will start with the full group, then break into smaller combinations — grandparents with grandkids, siblings together, your immediate family. It adds about 15 minutes to the session, and those images become some of the most treasured ones in the gallery.
About photography in Woodland
Historic downtown Main Street is the most character-rich location — brick storefronts, the Woodland Opera House facade, and tree-lined sidewalks provide an authentic small-town backdrop that photographs beautifully. The surrounding agricultural fields and country roads offer wide-open Yolo County skies for golden hour sessions. Fall sunflower and harvest fields add seasonal color that's unique to this area.
Late afternoon into golden hour is ideal — Yolo County farmland goes gold and warm as the light drops low, and country road sightlines give you miles of soft directional light. Main Street looks its best around golden hour when the warm light catches the brick storefronts from the west. Summer evenings work particularly well because the agricultural setting turns dramatically golden before sunset.
Woodland is about 20 miles northwest of Sacramento, typically 25–30 minutes via Interstate 5 or Highway 113. Angie covers the Yolo County area and does not charge a travel fee for Woodland sessions.
