Graduation photography in Woodland
There is a reason Woodland has become a go-to for graduation portraits among Sacramento-area students. The a quiet agricultural town with authentic character gives sessions a sense of place that studio shots cannot replicate, and country roads, barn structures, and golden Yolo County light offer variety within a short walking distance. Angie plans each session around late afternoon when Yolo County farmland glows golden and country road light goes soft and directional, when the light in Yolo County is warm and directional — flattering on camera and impossible to recreate with flash. Graduates typically meet at free street parking along Main Street and near the Opera House downtown and spend 60 minutes moving through multiple setups. Cap and gown first, then casual outfits that reflect your personality. Siblings, friends, or parents are welcome for the final 10 minutes. The finished gallery of 40-60 images arrives within two weeks, and each one is individually edited to match Captured By Angie's signature warm, natural style. Bonus: downtown Woodland restaurants and Main Street shops to explore before or after the session are an easy post-session stop.

Graduation Photos FAQ
Spring is the most popular — March through May — because the light is warm and campus is in full bloom. But Sacramento has great shooting conditions almost year-round. If you want fall foliage or summer golden hour, those work too. Just book early for spring dates since they fill fast.
Yes, and I recommend it. Most grads bring a cap & gown look plus one or two casual outfits. We will plan quick change spots at your location so transitions feel seamless. Three outfits is the sweet spot for a 60-minute session.
All the time. I know both campuses well — the best light spots at the UC Davis Arboretum, the iconic Sac State library steps, and plenty of less-crowded corners most people walk right past. I also shoot at Sierra College, ARC, and other local campuses.
Four to six weeks is ideal, especially for spring sessions. If you are a planner, booking two to three months out guarantees your preferred date. Last-minute sessions happen when my schedule allows, but the best golden-hour time slots go first.
About photography in Woodland
Historic downtown Main Street is the most character-rich location — brick storefronts, the Woodland Opera House facade, and tree-lined sidewalks provide an authentic small-town backdrop that photographs beautifully. The surrounding agricultural fields and country roads offer wide-open Yolo County skies for golden hour sessions. Fall sunflower and harvest fields add seasonal color that's unique to this area.
Late afternoon into golden hour is ideal — Yolo County farmland goes gold and warm as the light drops low, and country road sightlines give you miles of soft directional light. Main Street looks its best around golden hour when the warm light catches the brick storefronts from the west. Summer evenings work particularly well because the agricultural setting turns dramatically golden before sunset.
Woodland is about 20 miles northwest of Sacramento, typically 25–30 minutes via Interstate 5 or Highway 113. Angie covers the Yolo County area and does not charge a travel fee for Woodland sessions.
