About This Session

Graduation photography in Sacramento

Sacramento is home to graduates celebrating milestones at every level, and the local scenery provides a meaningful backdrop for their achievement. Sessions near the Capitol building, Tower Bridge, and Old Sacramento waterfront capture that sense of accomplishment in a setting that feels personal — not a generic studio backdrop, but a place that was part of the journey. The best time to shoot here is the hour before sunset when warm light floods the Capitol grounds and Tower Bridge glows gold, when the light wraps around the graduate and everything looks cinematic. Angie typically meets clients at street parking and public lots near Capitol Mall and Old Sacramento, and from there the session is a relaxed walk through the area's most photogenic spots. Whether you walked the stage last week or want to mark the moment at your own pace, cap-and-gown formals mixed with casual outfit changes tell the full story of who you are right now. Afterward, many grads head to coffee shops and restaurants in Midtown for a pre-session meetup or post-session celebration to celebrate — still riding the high from the session.

Common Questions

Graduation Photos FAQ

Spring is the most popular — March through May — because the light is warm and campus is in full bloom. But Sacramento has great shooting conditions almost year-round. If you want fall foliage or summer golden hour, those work too. Just book early for spring dates since they fill fast.

Yes, and I recommend it. Most grads bring a cap & gown look plus one or two casual outfits. We will plan quick change spots at your location so transitions feel seamless. Three outfits is the sweet spot for a 60-minute session.

All the time. I know both campuses well — the best light spots at the UC Davis Arboretum, the iconic Sac State library steps, and plenty of less-crowded corners most people walk right past. I also shoot at Sierra College, ARC, and other local campuses.

Four to six weeks is ideal, especially for spring sessions. If you are a planner, booking two to three months out guarantees your preferred date. Last-minute sessions happen when my schedule allows, but the best golden-hour time slots go first.

Local Info

About photography in Sacramento

The Capitol building and Tower Bridge are iconic for dramatic backdrops. Midtown's mural alleys catch beautiful reflected light in the afternoon. Land Park and the Sacramento River trail offer natural, green settings year-round. For golden hour, the waterfront near Old Sacramento faces west and glows at sunset — it's one of the most reliable spots in the city for warm, cinematic portraits.

Sacramento photographs well year-round. Spring (March–May) brings blooming trees and warm light along the American River Parkway and Capitol Park. Fall (October–November) offers golden foliage at Land Park and along the river. Summer works if you shoot during the golden hour window — the hour before sunset — to avoid harsh midday heat. Winter light is soft and underrated.

Most locations are centrally accessible. Capitol Mall, Old Sacramento, and Tower Bridge all have nearby public parking lots off 3rd Street and Front Street. Land Park offers free street parking along Freeport Boulevard. Midtown is best reached via street parking near 19th and 20th streets. Angie will share exact meeting point details after booking.
