About This Session

Graduation photography in Folsom

Celebrating a graduation in Folsom? The area offers oak-studded hillsides, lake shorelines, and the American River Parkway as a stunning canvas for your milestone portraits. From cap-and-gown shots near Folsom Lake, Sutter Street's Historic District, and the Johnny Cash Trail to relaxed lifestyle frames that capture who you are right now, every session is designed around the graduate. No stiff posing — just real moments and beautiful light during early evening when Folsom Lake reflects sunset colors and the historic district glows warm. Angie knows Folsom well and selects spots that match your style, whether you want something polished and urban or natural and open. Logistics are straightforward: meet at free street parking along Sutter Street and paid lots at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, spend an hour shooting through 2-3 outfits, and wrap up with 40-60 edited images delivered in about two weeks. Many graduates bring parents or best friends along and grab food afterward at restaurants and ice cream shops on Sutter Street for a post-session wind-down — it turns the whole thing into an experience, not just a photo session.

Common Questions

Graduation Photos FAQ

Spring is the most popular — March through May — because the light is warm and campus is in full bloom. But Sacramento has great shooting conditions almost year-round. If you want fall foliage or summer golden hour, those work too. Just book early for spring dates since they fill fast.

Yes, and I recommend it. Most grads bring a cap & gown look plus one or two casual outfits. We will plan quick change spots at your location so transitions feel seamless. Three outfits is the sweet spot for a 60-minute session.

All the time. I know both campuses well — the best light spots at the UC Davis Arboretum, the iconic Sac State library steps, and plenty of less-crowded corners most people walk right past. I also shoot at Sierra College, ARC, and other local campuses.

Four to six weeks is ideal, especially for spring sessions. If you are a planner, booking two to three months out guarantees your preferred date. Last-minute sessions happen when my schedule allows, but the best golden-hour time slots go first.

Local Info

About photography in Folsom

Folsom Lake's shoreline provides dramatic water-and-hill backdrops — especially at sunset when the lake turns mirror-still and reflects the colors of the sky. The Historic District on Sutter Street is perfect for urban charm with Gold Rush character: brick facades, tree-lined sidewalks, and warm storefront light. The Johnny Cash Trail bridge offers modern architectural lines against natural canyon scenery for something more editorial.

Early evening is ideal — when Folsom Lake catches the last of the sunset light and the historic district glows warm. Spring wildflowers bloom on the hillsides around the lake from March through April. Fall adds golden and amber oaks around the shoreline. Summer mornings work well before the afternoon heat, and the lake level is typically higher in spring for better waterline photography.

Folsom is about 25 miles east of Sacramento, typically 30–40 minutes via US-50. Angie shoots in Folsom regularly and does not charge a travel fee for sessions here.
