About This Session

Engagement photography in Folsom

There is something about Folsom's a unique mix of Gold Rush history and modern outdoor living that lends itself perfectly to couples photography. Sessions wander through locations near Folsom Lake, Sutter Street's Historic District, and the Johnny Cash Trail, chasing good light and natural moments. No awkward posing prompts — just guidance that brings out the way you two actually interact. The result is a set of images that feel honest and alive. Angie works exclusively during early evening when Folsom Lake reflects sunset colors and the historic district glows warm, which gives the images a warm, golden quality you cannot replicate in a studio. Meet at free street parking along Sutter Street and paid lots at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area and plan for about 75-90 minutes together. Wardrobe changes are encouraged — dressy for one set, casual for another — so the gallery has range. The 50-75 delivered images work for save-the-dates, wedding signage, and the kind of prints you actually want on your wall. Cap the evening at restaurants and ice cream shops on Sutter Street for a post-session wind-down and make it a proper date night.

What is engagement photos?

Engagement photography is a couples portrait session that captures the chemistry and connection between two people during their engagement or relationship milestone. Captured By Angie offers 75-90 minute engagement sessions throughout Sacramento and Northern California, with popular locations including Old Sacramento, Tower Bridge, the American River Parkway, and golden-hour fields in East Sacramento. Sessions are unrushed and focus on natural interaction rather than stiff posing, with gentle prompts that bring out genuine closeness and real laughter. Wardrobe changes are encouraged to mix dressy and casual looks across different backdrops. Deliverables include 50-75 individually edited images with a 2-3 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. Engagement photos double as practice for wedding day photography, helping couples get comfortable in front of the camera. Photographer Angie Shvaya specializes in natural-light portraiture and works exclusively during the golden hour window for warm, cinematic results. Sessions are available year-round, with spring and fall being the most requested seasons.

Common Questions

Engagement Photos FAQ

It depends on the vibe you want. Old Sacramento and Tower Bridge are classic for urban, dramatic shots. The Sacramento River at sunset is romantic without trying too hard. For something more natural, I love the fields in East Sacramento and the trails along the American River Parkway. I will help you pick based on what feels right for you two.

Most couples are, especially at first. I give prompts that focus on each other, not the camera — within the first few minutes you forget I am there. By the midpoint the best, most natural shots start happening.

That is one of the main reasons couples book engagement sessions. With a 2-3 week turnaround, you will have your gallery in plenty of time for save-the-dates, wedding websites, and signage. Just let me know your timeline when you book so we can make sure everything lines up.

Not at all. Some couples book these months or even years after getting engaged — or just because they want beautiful photos together. Anniversary sessions, dating milestones, or just a Tuesday — there is no wrong reason to document your relationship.

Local Info

About photography in Folsom

Folsom Lake's shoreline provides dramatic water-and-hill backdrops — especially at sunset when the lake turns mirror-still and reflects the colors of the sky. The Historic District on Sutter Street is perfect for urban charm with Gold Rush character: brick facades, tree-lined sidewalks, and warm storefront light. The Johnny Cash Trail bridge offers modern architectural lines against natural canyon scenery for something more editorial.

Early evening is ideal — when Folsom Lake catches the last of the sunset light and the historic district glows warm. Spring wildflowers bloom on the hillsides around the lake from March through April. Fall adds golden and amber oaks around the shoreline. Summer mornings work well before the afternoon heat, and the lake level is typically higher in spring for better waterline photography.

Folsom is about 25 miles east of Sacramento, typically 30–40 minutes via US-50. Angie shoots in Folsom regularly and does not charge a travel fee for sessions here.
