About This Session

Weddings photography in Auburn

Choosing to keep your wedding small does not mean settling for less — it means every moment carries more weight. In Auburn, intimate celebrations near Old Town Auburn, the American River confluence, and Foresthill Bridge are framed by canyon overlooks, pine-oak woodlands, and rushing river corridors and the kind of natural light that only Placer County delivers. Angie covers 4-6 hours of your day in documentary style, from the first nervous glance in the mirror to the last song on the dance floor. She schedules portraits around the golden hour when canyon walls warm up and Old Town's brick facades catch deep amber light for the most cinematic results, and a pre-wedding planning call ensures the rest of the coverage aligns with your timeline. With free public lots in Old Town Auburn and trailhead parking near the confluence nearby and Old Town Auburn's restaurants and wine tasting rooms within walking distance of session locations available for rehearsal dinners or post-wedding brunches, the logistics of a Auburn wedding come together easily. The delivered gallery of 200-400 images arrives in 4-6 weeks — a full record of the day as it actually happened.

What is small weddings?

Small wedding photography is documentary-style coverage of intimate ceremonies and celebrations with fewer than 50 guests, including courthouse elopements, backyard weddings, and micro-weddings at Northern California venues. Captured By Angie provides 4-6 hours of coverage capturing every phase of the day — getting-ready details, ceremony emotions, reception candids, and golden-hour portraits. A pre-wedding planning call ensures the timeline accounts for key moments like the first look, vows, first dance, and toasts. Popular Sacramento-area venues include Vizcaya in midtown, winery estates in Lodi, foothill barns in Placerville, and the Sacramento County Courthouse for elopements. Deliverables include 200-400 individually edited images with a 4-6 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. Photographer Angie Shvaya takes a quiet, observational approach, moving through the day without interrupting it so couples can stay fully present with their guests. Coverage extends throughout Sacramento and Northern California, from downtown venues to Gold Country estates.

Small Weddings FAQ

Generally under 50 guests, but there is no strict cutoff. Elopements with just the two of you, courthouse ceremonies with a handful of witnesses, backyard parties with 40 friends — all of these fall into the intimate wedding category. The approach is documentary: I capture the day as it unfolds.

Yes — Sacramento County Courthouse weddings are some of my favorites. They are quick, emotional, and real. I typically cover 1-2 hours for a courthouse ceremony plus portraits nearby. Tower Bridge and Capitol Park are a short walk away for golden-hour photos afterward.

I have shot at venues throughout Sacramento and Northern California — from Vizcaya in midtown to winery estates in Lodi and foothill barns in Placerville. I am happy to share recommendations based on your guest count, budget, and style. Just ask during our planning call.

Your call. I personally love first looks because they create an intimate, private moment and take pressure off the ceremony. But if you prefer to see each other for the first time at the altar, we will build the timeline around that. Either way, you get both candid and portrait-style images.

About photography in Auburn

Old Town Auburn is the standout location — brick facades on Lincoln Way and Court Street, covered sidewalks, and Gold Rush-era architecture create a backdrop with real character. The American River canyon confluence below Old Town offers dramatic canyon walls and rushing water for adventurous sessions. Foresthill Bridge looms overhead and makes a striking environmental element. Canyon overlooks at sunset light up the foothill terrain with warm amber tones.

Spring and fall are the most photogenic seasons. Spring (March–May) brings green canyon slopes and flowing water at the river confluence. Fall turns Old Town's surrounding oaks golden from October through November. The canyon light during golden hour is exceptional — canyon walls warm up and the pine-oak woodland goes fully amber. Summer mornings work well in the canyon before the heat builds.

Auburn is about 35 miles northeast of Sacramento, typically 40–50 minutes via Interstate 80. Angie covers Auburn and the Placer County foothills and will confirm travel details when you inquire about a session here.
