Family photography in Loomis
Family sessions in Loomis lean into what makes your crew unique — the inside jokes, the toddler who won't sit still, the quiet moments between the chaos. Locations near the Blue Goose Fruit Shed, local orchards, and Loomis Basin trails offer peaceful orchards, foothill wildflowers, and soft afternoon light through oak canopies that feel natural and lived-in, not staged. Angie's documentary approach means you get to be yourselves while she captures the real stuff. Sessions run 45-60 minutes, timed around mid-afternoon through golden hour when orchard rows create layered light and wildflowers glow warm when the light is warm and soft. Getting there is easy — roadside parking near the Blue Goose and trail access points along the Loomis Basin puts families right at the session location. Kids are free to run, explore, and be messy. That is where the best images come from. When the session wraps, most families head to the Blue Goose Fruit Shed and local farm stands for a uniquely Loomis pre-session stop for dinner or a treat, turning the whole thing into a family outing worth remembering.
What is family sessions?
Family photography is an on-location portrait session designed to document the authentic connections within a family — candid interactions, playful moments, and genuine expressions rather than stiff, posed group shots. Captured By Angie offers 45-60 minute family sessions at parks, open fields, and private homes throughout Sacramento and Northern California, including popular locations like William Land Park, the American River Parkway, and McKinley Park. Sessions accommodate families of all sizes, from couples with newborns to multigenerational groups of twenty or more. A natural mix of candid and gently guided shots ensures both real moments and wall-worthy portraits in every gallery. Deliverables include 30-50 individually edited images with a 2-3 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. Photographer Angie Shvaya coordinates wardrobe palettes and timing around golden hour to produce warm, natural-light images that reflect how each family actually lives and loves. Fall sessions from October through November are the most popular booking window.

Family Sessions FAQ
That is completely normal and honestly some of my favorite images come from it. I never force kids to sit still and smile. We play games, explore, and let them do their thing. The result is photos that actually look like your family — not stiff, staged portraits where everyone looks uncomfortable.
Coordinate, don't match. Stick to a color palette — neutrals, earth tones, and soft colors photograph beautifully in Sacramento's natural light. Avoid large logos and neon. I send a detailed style guide after booking with specific recommendations based on your session location and time of year.
Fall is the most popular — October and November give you golden light and gorgeous foliage at places like William Land Park and the American River Parkway. But spring is equally beautiful, and summer sessions work if we shoot in the hour before sunset. Sacramento's mild winters are underrated for photos too.
Of course. I love multigenerational sessions. We will start with the full group, then break into smaller combinations — grandparents with grandkids, siblings together, your immediate family. It adds about 15 minutes to the session, and those images become some of the most treasured ones in the gallery.
About photography in Loomis
The Blue Goose Fruit Shed district and surrounding orchards are the most distinctive locations in Loomis — orchard rows create layered depth and dappled light that is impossible to find in more suburban areas. The Loomis Basin trails wind through foothill wildflowers and oak canopies. In spring, fruit tree blossoms add a soft, seasonal backdrop that brings clients from across the Sacramento region specifically for that setting.
Spring is Loomis at its absolute best — February through April brings fruit tree blossoms in the orchards and wildflowers through the foothill fields. The light through orchard canopies is exceptionally soft during this window. Fall adds golden oak tones. Mid-afternoon through golden hour year-round produces that layered, warm orchard light that makes Loomis sessions distinctive.
Loomis is about 30 miles northeast of Sacramento, typically 35–45 minutes via Interstate 80. Angie covers the Loomis Basin and will confirm any applicable travel details when you book a session here.
