Family Sessions in Orangevale, CA — Captured By Angie
About This Session

Family photography in Orangevale

What makes Orangevale special for family photography is the combination of semi-rural Sacramento County charm with open space and old-growth oaks and genuinely beautiful outdoor spaces. Sessions near Orangevale Community Park, the American River Parkway, and local horse properties let families spread out, and wide-open fields, ranch fencing, and riverside trails with canyon views add a layered, natural backdrop without requiring a drive to a distant location. Angie's approach is simple: show up during the golden hour when Orangevale's open fields and oak canopy catch warm, directional light from the west, let the kids lead, and she will capture the moments that matter. Parking at free parking at Orangevale Community Park and American River Parkway trailheads keeps logistics easy, and the session itself runs 45-60 minutes — long enough for variety, short enough to keep everyone happy. Multigenerational groups are welcome; Angie weaves in smaller combination shots throughout so grandparents, siblings, and individual families all get their own frames. The gallery of 30-50 images arrives in 2-3 weeks. Many Orangevale families plan a stop at local eateries and coffee shops along Greenback Lane for a casual pre- or post-session bite as part of the evening.

What is family sessions?

Family photography is an on-location portrait session designed to document the authentic connections within a family — candid interactions, playful moments, and genuine expressions rather than stiff, posed group shots. Captured By Angie offers 45-60 minute family sessions at parks, open fields, and private homes throughout Sacramento and Northern California, including popular locations like William Land Park, the American River Parkway, and McKinley Park. Sessions accommodate families of all sizes, from couples with newborns to multigenerational groups of twenty or more. A natural mix of candid and gently guided shots ensures both real moments and wall-worthy portraits in every gallery. Deliverables include 30-50 individually edited images with a 2-3 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. Photographer Angie Shvaya coordinates wardrobe palettes and timing around golden hour to produce warm, natural-light images that reflect how each family actually lives and loves. Fall sessions from October through November are the most popular booking window.

Common Questions

Family Sessions FAQ

That is completely normal and honestly some of my favorite images come from it. I never force kids to sit still and smile. We play games, explore, and let them do their thing. The result is photos that actually look like your family — not stiff, staged portraits where everyone looks uncomfortable.

Coordinate, don't match. Stick to a color palette — neutrals, earth tones, and soft colors photograph beautifully in Sacramento's natural light. Avoid large logos and neon. I send a detailed style guide after booking with specific recommendations based on your session location and time of year.

Fall is the most popular — October and November give you golden light and gorgeous foliage at places like William Land Park and the American River Parkway. But spring is equally beautiful, and summer sessions work if we shoot in the hour before sunset. Sacramento's mild winters are underrated for photos too.

Of course. I love multigenerational sessions. We will start with the full group, then break into smaller combinations — grandparents with grandkids, siblings together, your immediate family. It adds about 15 minutes to the session, and those images become some of the most treasured ones in the gallery.

About photography in Orangevale

Orangevale Community Park has wide open fields framed by mature oaks — ideal for family and portrait sessions. The American River Parkway access at the north end of town provides riverside trails with natural canyon scenery. Local horse properties and rural roads offer a country aesthetic that is hard to find this close to Sacramento.

Fall is gorgeous here — the oak canopy turns golden from October through November and the light is warm without summer heat. Spring brings green rolling hills and wildflowers from March through April. Summer golden hour sessions work well since the open spaces catch beautiful low-angle light.
