Portraits photography in Davis
If you have been putting off getting good photos of yourself, a portrait session in Davis makes it easy. Angie shoots on location using tree-canopied bike paths, sunflower fields, and Putah Creek and natural settings near the UC Davis Arboretum, downtown murals, and the campus quad to create relaxed, beautiful images — solo, with a friend, or with a partner. Sessions run 45-60 minutes during late afternoon when the Arboretum's tree canopy creates soft, filtered light perfect for portraits, when Yolo County's light is soft and flattering. Meet at campus visitor parking and free spots on residential streets near the Arboretum and bring 1-2 outfits — earth tones and solid colors work best outdoors, and Angie will guide you on what reads well on camera. She gives gentle direction throughout, keeping things natural and comfortable even if you are not used to being in front of a lens. The final gallery of 20-40 images arrives in 1-2 weeks. downtown Davis coffee shops and the farmers market for a laid-back pre-session vibe are right there for a quick stop after.
What is portrait sessions?
Portrait session photography captures individuals, duos, and small groups in natural outdoor settings — fields, parks, urban backdrops, and scenic locations throughout Sacramento and Northern California. Captured By Angie offers 45-60 minute portrait sessions on location, using natural light and real environments to create relaxed, editorial-quality imagery. Sessions work for solo portraits, best friend shoots, couple portraits, milestone celebrations, social media content, and creative projects. Deliverables include 20-40 individually edited images with a 1-2 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. The approach is guided but not posed — Angie provides direction on movement, placement, and expression while keeping the session relaxed and natural. Retouching is minimal, preserving skin texture and genuine expressions. Photographer Angie Shvaya shoots at locations throughout Sacramento, including open fields, tree-lined paths, downtown architecture, and riverfront settings, selecting backdrops that match each client's vision and personality.

Portrait Sessions FAQ
Wear something you feel great in. Earth tones, soft neutrals, and muted colors photograph beautifully outdoors. Avoid busy logos and neon. If you are coming with someone else, coordinate tones without matching exactly. Bring a second outfit if you want variety — I send a style guide after booking.
Yes. Portrait sessions work for solo, duos, and small groups. Whether it is you and your best friend, you and your partner, or a group of three — the session adapts. Larger groups work better as a family or event session.
Between 20 and 40 fully edited images from a standard session. You will have plenty for social media, printing, and saving. Every image in the gallery is polished and ready to use.
Anywhere with good light and a backdrop that fits your vibe. Open fields, tree-lined paths, downtown Sacramento architecture, the American River Parkway — I will recommend locations based on what you are going for. I know the best spots across the Sacramento area.
About photography in Davis
The UC Davis Arboretum is the standout location — tree-canopied pathways along Putah Creek create soft, dappled light that works beautifully for portraits at almost any time of day. The campus quad and library lawn are popular for graduation sessions with UC Davis students. Downtown Davis murals add color and character for more urban editorial looks. The surrounding farmland offers wide-open sunset skies.
Spring is peak season in Davis — the Arboretum is in full bloom from late February through April with flowering trees and green pathways. Fall is excellent too, when the tree canopy turns amber along Putah Creek. Summer evenings work well for sunset sessions in the open farmland east of campus. Graduation season in May and June draws many UC Davis portrait bookings.
Davis is about 15 miles west of Sacramento, typically 20–25 minutes via Interstate 80. Angie regularly shoots at UC Davis for graduation portraits and does not charge a travel fee for this area.
