About This Session

Weddings photography in El Dorado Hills

Small weddings deserve the same level of attention as grand affairs — often more. In El Dorado Hills, ceremonies set against sweeping oak-covered hillsides, valley views, and golden-hour ridgelines feel effortlessly beautiful. Angie's approach is quiet and observational: she moves through the day capturing candid moments, honest emotions, and the small details that make your wedding yours. The El Dorado County light does the rest — especially during the golden hour when the foothills catch directional light and oak shadows stretch across the grass, when portraits take on that warm, cinematic quality. With 4-6 hours of documentary-style coverage, every phase is documented: getting ready, first look, ceremony, reception, and golden-hour portraits near Town Center Plaza, Folsom Lake access points, and the El Dorado Trail. A pre-wedding call helps plan the timeline so nothing important slips through. Parking at free parking at Town Center and trailhead lots along the El Dorado Trail keeps arrival easy for everyone. The complete gallery of 200-400 images arrives in 4-6 weeks, and couples often say the photos helped them see moments they were too present to notice.

What is small weddings?

Small wedding photography is documentary-style coverage of intimate ceremonies and celebrations with fewer than 50 guests, including courthouse elopements, backyard weddings, and micro-weddings at Northern California venues. Captured By Angie provides 4-6 hours of coverage capturing every phase of the day — getting-ready details, ceremony emotions, reception candids, and golden-hour portraits. A pre-wedding planning call ensures the timeline accounts for key moments like the first look, vows, first dance, and toasts. Popular Sacramento-area venues include Vizcaya in midtown, winery estates in Lodi, foothill barns in Placerville, and the Sacramento County Courthouse for elopements. Deliverables include 200-400 individually edited images with a 4-6 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. Photographer Angie Shvaya takes a quiet, observational approach, moving through the day without interrupting it so couples can stay fully present with their guests. Coverage extends throughout Sacramento and Northern California, from downtown venues to Gold Country estates.

Small Weddings FAQ

Generally under 50 guests, but there is no strict cutoff. Elopements with just the two of you, courthouse ceremonies with a handful of witnesses, backyard parties with 40 friends — all of these fall into the intimate wedding category. The approach is documentary: I capture the day as it unfolds.

Yes — Sacramento County Courthouse weddings are some of my favorites. They are quick, emotional, and real. I typically cover 1-2 hours for a courthouse ceremony plus portraits nearby. Tower Bridge and Capitol Park are a short walk away for golden-hour photos afterward.

I have shot at venues throughout Sacramento and Northern California — from Vizcaya in midtown to winery estates in Lodi and foothill barns in Placerville. I am happy to share recommendations based on your guest count, budget, and style. Just ask during our planning call.

Your call. I personally love first looks because they create an intimate, private moment and take pressure off the ceremony. But if you prefer to see each other for the first time at the altar, we will build the timeline around that. Either way, you get both candid and portrait-style images.

Local Info

About photography in El Dorado Hills

The open oak-covered hillsides throughout El Dorado Hills create sweeping natural backdrops that are hard to find anywhere else in the Sacramento metro. Town Center Plaza offers a polished, walkable setting with retail architecture for headshots and small group sessions. The El Dorado Trail and Folsom Lake access points to the south add dramatic water and ridgeline views. Golden hour hits the foothill oak shadows at a low, directional angle that is genuinely beautiful.

Spring and fall are both outstanding. Spring (March–April) turns the hillsides green with wildflowers scattered through the oaks. Fall (October–November) shifts those same hills to gold and amber — the color payoff in the foothills is more dramatic than the valley floor. Summer evenings still work well when the golden hour light comes in low across the ridgelines.

El Dorado Hills is about 25–30 miles east of Sacramento, typically 30–40 minutes via US-50. Angie covers El Dorado County and does not charge a travel fee for El Dorado Hills sessions.
