Family Sessions in Granite Bay, CA — Captured By Angie
About This Session

Family photography in Granite Bay

Family photography in Granite Bay works best when it feels like a regular afternoon — just with someone capturing the good parts. Open spaces near Folsom Lake's Granite Bay shoreline, local equestrian estates, and Quarry Trail give kids room to move while granite-boulder shoreline, rolling oak hillsides, and estate-lined country roads provide a naturally beautiful setting. These sessions are relaxed, playful, and designed to reflect your family as you actually are. Angie schedules shoots during the golden hour when Folsom Lake's surface turns amber and the granite shoreline glows warm in low-angle light, when the light across Placer County is warm enough to flatter every skin tone. Arrive at paid parking at Granite Bay Beach (Folsom Lake SRA) and roadside access near local trailheads, and the session flows from there — 45-60 minutes of candid moments mixed with a handful of guided frames that look great printed large. Wardrobe tip: coordinate around a soft color palette rather than matching. It photographs better and feels less forced. After the session, Douglas Boulevard restaurants and wine bars for a polished post-session evening make a natural wind-down for the whole family.

What is family sessions?

Family photography is an on-location portrait session designed to document the authentic connections within a family — candid interactions, playful moments, and genuine expressions rather than stiff, posed group shots. Captured By Angie offers 45-60 minute family sessions at parks, open fields, and private homes throughout Sacramento and Northern California, including popular locations like William Land Park, the American River Parkway, and McKinley Park. Sessions accommodate families of all sizes, from couples with newborns to multigenerational groups of twenty or more. A natural mix of candid and gently guided shots ensures both real moments and wall-worthy portraits in every gallery. Deliverables include 30-50 individually edited images with a 2-3 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. Photographer Angie Shvaya coordinates wardrobe palettes and timing around golden hour to produce warm, natural-light images that reflect how each family actually lives and loves. Fall sessions from October through November are the most popular booking window.

Common Questions

Family Sessions FAQ

That is completely normal and honestly some of my favorite images come from it. I never force kids to sit still and smile. We play games, explore, and let them do their thing. The result is photos that actually look like your family — not stiff, staged portraits where everyone looks uncomfortable.

Coordinate, don't match. Stick to a color palette — neutrals, earth tones, and soft colors photograph beautifully in Sacramento's natural light. Avoid large logos and neon. I send a detailed style guide after booking with specific recommendations based on your session location and time of year.

Fall is the most popular — October and November give you golden light and gorgeous foliage at places like William Land Park and the American River Parkway. But spring is equally beautiful, and summer sessions work if we shoot in the hour before sunset. Sacramento's mild winters are underrated for photos too.

Of course. I love multigenerational sessions. We will start with the full group, then break into smaller combinations — grandparents with grandkids, siblings together, your immediate family. It adds about 15 minutes to the session, and those images become some of the most treasured ones in the gallery.

Local Info

About photography in Granite Bay

Folsom Lake's Granite Bay beach and shoreline are the signature backdrop — water, granite boulders, and oak-covered hills create a dramatic setting especially at sunset. The area's equestrian properties and rural roads lined with heritage oaks offer an elegant, estate-like feel. Quarry Trail and local open spaces provide wooded paths and wildflower meadows in spring.

Spring is stunning when the hills are green and Folsom Lake is full — the shoreline is expansive and wildflowers bloom along the trails. Fall brings golden foliage and warm afternoon light across the rolling terrain. Summer works for lakeside sunset sessions when the evening breeze comes off the water.

Granite Bay is about 25 miles northeast of downtown Sacramento, roughly 30–35 minutes via Interstate 80 and Douglas Boulevard. Angie covers the Granite Bay and Placer County area and does not charge a travel fee for this location.
