Weddings photography in Davis
Davis has quietly become one of the most popular spots in Yolo County for intimate weddings, and it is easy to see why. The a college-town atmosphere with artistic flair and agricultural roots gives ceremonies a sense of place, and the UC Davis Arboretum, downtown murals, and the campus quad offer backdrops that feel intentional without being overdone. Angie provides 4-6 hours of documentary coverage — no interruptions, no awkward group-photo sessions that pull you away from your guests. She captures the getting-ready details, the ceremony emotions, and the reception energy, then uses late afternoon when the Arboretum's tree canopy creates soft, filtered light perfect for portraits for the portrait session when the light across Yolo County is at its most flattering. A pre-wedding planning call maps the timeline, and campus visitor parking and free spots on residential streets near the Arboretum keeps arrival seamless. The full gallery of 200-400 images arrives in 4-6 weeks and tells the complete, honest story of your wedding day.
What is small weddings?
Small wedding photography is documentary-style coverage of intimate ceremonies and celebrations with fewer than 50 guests, including courthouse elopements, backyard weddings, and micro-weddings at Northern California venues. Captured By Angie provides 4-6 hours of coverage capturing every phase of the day — getting-ready details, ceremony emotions, reception candids, and golden-hour portraits. A pre-wedding planning call ensures the timeline accounts for key moments like the first look, vows, first dance, and toasts. Popular Sacramento-area venues include Vizcaya in midtown, winery estates in Lodi, foothill barns in Placerville, and the Sacramento County Courthouse for elopements. Deliverables include 200-400 individually edited images with a 4-6 week turnaround, delivered through a private online gallery. Photographer Angie Shvaya takes a quiet, observational approach, moving through the day without interrupting it so couples can stay fully present with their guests. Coverage extends throughout Sacramento and Northern California, from downtown venues to Gold Country estates.

Small Weddings FAQ
Generally under 50 guests, but there is no strict cutoff. Elopements with just the two of you, courthouse ceremonies with a handful of witnesses, backyard parties with 40 friends — all of these fall into the intimate wedding category. The approach is documentary: I capture the day as it unfolds.
Yes — Sacramento County Courthouse weddings are some of my favorites. They are quick, emotional, and real. I typically cover 1-2 hours for a courthouse ceremony plus portraits nearby. Tower Bridge and Capitol Park are a short walk away for golden-hour photos afterward.
I have shot at venues throughout Sacramento and Northern California — from Vizcaya in midtown to winery estates in Lodi and foothill barns in Placerville. I am happy to share recommendations based on your guest count, budget, and style. Just ask during our planning call.
Your call. I personally love first looks because they create an intimate, private moment and take pressure off the ceremony. But if you prefer to see each other for the first time at the altar, we will build the timeline around that. Either way, you get both candid and portrait-style images.
About photography in Davis
The UC Davis Arboretum is the standout location — tree-canopied pathways along Putah Creek create soft, dappled light that works beautifully for portraits at almost any time of day. The campus quad and library lawn are popular for graduation sessions with UC Davis students. Downtown Davis murals add color and character for more urban editorial looks. The surrounding farmland offers wide-open sunset skies.
Spring is peak season in Davis — the Arboretum is in full bloom from late February through April with flowering trees and green pathways. Fall is excellent too, when the tree canopy turns amber along Putah Creek. Summer evenings work well for sunset sessions in the open farmland east of campus. Graduation season in May and June draws many UC Davis portrait bookings.
Davis is about 15 miles west of Sacramento, typically 20–25 minutes via Interstate 80. Angie regularly shoots at UC Davis for graduation portraits and does not charge a travel fee for this area.
